What counts as a plumbing emergency
If water or sewage is actively going where it should not, it is an emergency. A burst supply line, a water heater tank that has let go, a sewer backing up into a tub or floor drain, a toilet overflowing that will not stop, a gas smell, or a house with no water at all. Every minute of flow is more drywall, flooring, and cabinets to replace, and sewage in a living space is a health problem, not just a mess.
A dripping faucet, a slow drain, or a toilet that runs is not an emergency, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than charge you an after-hours visit for something that can wait until morning.
What to do before we get there
For a burst pipe or a leaking water heater, shut off the main water valve. In most Tulsa homes it is where the water line enters the house, often in the garage, a utility closet, or the crawlspace, or at the meter box near the street. For a water heater, the cold water valve on top of the unit shuts that heater off by itself; if it is electric, turn off the breaker too.
For a sewer backup, stop running water anywhere in the house. Every flush and every load of laundry adds to what is coming back up. Keep people and pets out of the affected area.
If you smell gas, don't flip switches or light anything. If the smell is strong, get everyone out, then call us right away and tell us it's an emergency. Open doors and windows if you can do it safely. Most gas smells turn out to be small leaks we can find and fix. If it's strong outside the house too, you hear hissing, or anyone feels sick, get well away from the building and call 911 or Oklahoma Natural Gas.
What to expect from us
When you call, you get a real person, not a call center, and a licensed plumber is on call. We'll ask what's happening, where the water is coming from, and whether you can reach a shutoff. If you can't, we'll walk you to it. Then we give you an honest arrival window.
On site, the first job is to stop the damage and make the situation safe. Then we find the actual cause and explain the repair before doing it. Sometimes the permanent fix can happen right then; sometimes the right call is to stabilize things at night and finish in daylight. We will tell you which, and why.
Oklahoma weather and your plumbing
Most of our emergency calls cluster in two seasons. The first hard freeze in Tulsa bursts hose bibs, exposed supply lines, and pipes in unheated crawlspaces and garages. Heavy spring and fall storms overwhelm sewer lines and sump pumps and push groundwater into basements. If you have had a close call before, an inspection before the season is a lot cheaper than the call during it.
When to call
- A pipe has burst or water is actively spreading
- Sewage is backing up into tubs, showers, or floor drains
- The water heater tank is leaking heavily
- The house has suddenly lost all water
- You smell gas (strong smell? get everyone out first, then call us)
How we approach it
- Talk you to the shutoff by phone to stop the damage
- Give you an honest arrival window
- Stabilize the situation and make it safe
- Find the cause and explain the repair before we do it
A practical recommendation
Find your main water shutoff today, while nothing is wrong. Show everyone in the house. It is the single most useful thing you can do before a plumbing emergency.
Common questions
- Do you really answer at night and on weekends?
- Yes. Emergencies don't keep business hours, so we don't either. Call any time and a real licensed plumber is on call.
- Is an after-hours visit more expensive?
- Yes. After-hours, weekend and holiday work is billed at after-hours rates, and our specials and standard rates don't apply (those are for normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM). We will tell you that before we roll. If the problem can safely wait until morning, we will say so.
- What areas do you cover for emergencies?
- Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs, and Sapulpa.
