What a conversion really involves

A tankless heater fires at three to five times the BTU rating of the tank it replaces. The half-inch gas line that fed your old 40,000 BTU tank almost never supports a 180,000 BTU tankless unit, so a proper conversion usually includes gas line work. Venting changes too: tankless units need dedicated stainless or PVC venting, not the old B-vent. Condensing models also need a condensate drain.

None of this is a reason not to convert. It is the reason conversions cost more than a tank swap, and the reason a cheap tankless install tends to become a service headache. When the gas line is undersized the unit starves at high demand, throws codes, and delivers lukewarm water at the worst moment.

When tankless makes sense in Tulsa

Will a tankless heater give me instant hot water?: No. It gives you endless hot water, but the water still has to travel from the heater to the tap. Instant hot water at the fixture requires a recirculation system, which we can discuss.
