Tulsa’s Climate Gives Tankless an Advantage

Tulsa is in climate Zone 3A. Our winter incoming-water temperature is often around 58°F. To reach a 115°F setpoint, a tankless unit needs a temperature rise of about 57°F. In colder regions, incoming water may be only 35°F–45°F, requiring a much greater temperature rise.

Because Tulsa’s incoming water is comparatively warmer, a properly sized tankless heater can often maintain higher flow rates and support more simultaneous fixtures here than it could in a colder climate.

Installation Details Matter

A tankless conversion may require new intake and exhaust piping, condensate disposal, electrical power, and verification that the gas piping can support the added load. These details should be evaluated before the project begins.

For tank units, current federal efficiency standards have increased physical dimensions. A replacement with the same gallon rating may not fit where the old tank did.

Recirculation and Rebates

If your home already has hot-water recirculation, switching to tankless may produce only modest gas savings because energy is still used to keep water circulating. In that situation, compare the experience and performance you want—not energy savings alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a tankless water heater ever run out of hot water?

Kind of. It does not run out of stored hot water, but every tankless unit has a maximum flow rate based on the temperature rise it must produce. If your fixtures demand more gallons per minute than the unit can heat at that temperature rise, the water temperature may drop until one or more fixtures are turned off.

Is tankless always the better choice in Tulsa?

No. Tulsa’s warmer incoming water helps tankless performance, but a traditional tank remains a reliable and economical choice for many households.

Does converting to tankless require a larger gas line?

Sometimes. The total gas load and existing piping must be calculated before installation. Venting, condensate, and electrical requirements also need to be evaluated.

Which type is less expensive to maintain?

Generally, a traditional tank heater is less expensive to maintain. Tank maintenance involves draining the tank and flushing sediment from the bottom; ideally, the anode rod should also be removed and inspected when accessible. Tankless maintenance usually takes longer because a descaling solution must be circulated through the heat exchanger, and components such as the condensate system and air inlet also need attention. That is why our tank maintenance packages are significantly less expensive than our tankless packages.
